PROPERTY ASSESSMENT
One of JEK Owners Advocate,
Inc's. clients was convinced that the building facility
they were about to buy was perfect. However, our Property
Assessment Survey discovered so many latent defects
that the investment required to facilitate the necessary
corrections made the purchase a poor investment decision.
As a result our client cancelled the purchase.
CHICAGO BULLS vs. DETROIT PISTONS
The Detroit Pistons asked JEK Owners
Advocate, Inc. how they managed to design the lighting
system at the Chicago Bulls Berto Center in such a
manner that allowed videotaping. Our solution for
them involved upgrading their existing lighting system
in their new facility in Auburn Hills, MI.
VALUE ENGINEERING
Another JEK Owners Advocate,
Inc. client had extreme "over" budget problems
on a project that they had not designed nor engineered.
Through JEK Architects + Engineers, Inc. Value Engineering,
the $8,000,000 expected cost was reduced by $2,000,000.
SELF CERTIFICATION
The City of Chicago building permitting
process can be extremely lengthy and complicated.
Through proper preparation and presentation by JEK
Owners Advocate, Inc., the permits for McDonald's
Midway Airport plus other retail and office projects
were obtained by Self Certification in less than a
week, rather than months.
NATIONWIDE CAPABILITIES
Bridgestone Firestone relies on JEK
Owners Advocate, Inc. to survey and document
existing conditions of their stores nationwide and
to provide updates for the yearly corporate re-imaging
of their facilities.
ACCELERATED PROGRAM
Through the team effort of JEK
Owners Advocate, Inc., G.C. Fred Berglund &
Sons and the owner BankFinancial, a fast-track method
for design and construction was achieved. A new 3-story
45,000 s.f. Office building for BankFinancial was
completed in 16 months rather than 24 months as was
originally scheduled.
WE NEED IT YESTERDAY
Motorola was in need of an accelerated
program to construct a retail outlet on Michigan Avenue
in Chicago. In partnership with Maman Corp, JEK Owners
Advocate, Inc., within a 30 day period coordinated
design, permitting, construction and occupancy.
OWNERS ADVOCATE
JEK Owners Advocate, Inc. assisted
NAI Hiffman with their new Life Style Center in Oakbrook,
IL. Utilizing our Owner's Advocate program, issues
were addressed at the early stages of the construction
process, prior to any contractors being involved.
This program has successfully facilitated projects
throughout the nation.
STAYING POWER
JEK Owners Advocate, Inc. have
been serving their clients for more than 30 years
and have gained registration for both architectural
and engineering in multiple states.
SUSTAINABLE BUILDINGS

JEK Owners Advocate, Inc. are capable of providing
the optimum building components and systems for their
clients to gain LEED Certification.
THE WORLD OF SEMANTICS
Several millions of dollars were saved
by JEK Owners Advocate, Inc. in the Owner's
Advocate role by choosing the right terminology to
define a project. For instance, The Sir Francis Drake
Hotel "Renovation" in San Francisco was
changed to a "Bathroom Upgrade", and The
National Conference Center "Ballroom Expansion"
in Washington, D.C. was changed to The National Conference
Center "West Building Expansion".
INNOVATION
JEK Owners Advocate, Inc. expertise
was invaluable when Federated Stores decided to convert
the Medinah Temple in Chicago to a Bloomingdale Department
Store. JEK Architects + Engineers, Inc.'s creative
approach involved lowering mechanical components thru
an existing skylight thus avoiding costly structural
modifications necessary for proper installation of
this equipment.
BACK STAGE DRAMA
How do you install 10lbs. of equipment
in a 5lb. space within an existing building? That
was the dilemma ownership faced when renovating the
Water Tower Theatre in Chicago. JEK Owners Advocate,
Inc. were able to engineer a mechanical system that
(believe it or not) is situated on top of the theatre's
marquee that overhangs the front sidewalk. This decision
enabled interior space to be better-utilized and eliminated
visual and noise disruption within the Theater's environment.
EVEN WITH COMPLEXITY - "THE
SHOW MUST GO ON"
When Harpo Studios was about to
film "Bruster Place", it was discovered
that the electrical system had to be enhanced. The
extremely complicated engineering task was performed
successfully by JEK Owners Advocate, Inc.
As a result the program was filmed on schedule.
